Focus on the Family founder Dr. James Dobson recently said he would vote for John McCain.
The statement brought about a dozen protestors to his front door at the Focus headquarters Thursday morning.

Dobson maintains a pro-life stance and has vowed to throw support behind candidates who feel the same way.

Thursday’s demonstrators believe a McCain endorsement is a broken promise.

"Dr. Dobson has violated his pledge to God," said protester Bob Enyart through a cell phone Thursday morning as he participated in a sit-in inside the Focus lobby.

The group representing American Right to Life said they stuck to their word recently.

"We hung the sheets of shame during the DNC from Table Mountain saying Democrats destroy unborn children," said spokesperson Leslie Hanks.

The group thinks Dobson, as an influential voice to Christian voters, should stick to his.

"He said as long as God let him live on this earth, never again would he vote for an individual candidate who would support taking innocent human life," Hanks said.

A quiet protest outside Focus on the Family moved inside as a group of eight sat in to pray and demand response from Focus leadership. Based on the platform established by GOP delegates in st. Paul this week, republicans outlined their priorities.

"It's purely pro-life," said Focus spokesperson Tom Minnery.

They have selected John McCain and Governor Sarah Palin to the ticket.

"Dr. Dobson can support a candidate who's nominated by a party like that," Minnery said.

McCain has in the past gone against party line, supporting abortion in cases of incest and rape, also showing interest in embryonic stem cell research.

"I think we'll see him turn around and agree with President Bush on very strong, no exception prohibition to embryonic research," Minnery said.

Some voters aren’t impressed, and think Dobson's endorsement of the republican hopeful does more harm than good.

The eight people who staged Thursday's sit- in were arrested and cited for trespassing on Focus on the Family grounds.

Abortion is murder, period. Though incest and rape is very very wrong, it is not the child's fault and they do not deserve to be aborted. The child can be adopted by a loving family instead of being killed. It just doesn't make sense how some of you think.

Cate- I agree with you 100%! I believe abortion in wrong when it is used as birth control. When there is an instance like this, I can understand. Being pregnante right now, getting ready to give birth, I feel really bad for women who go through such a hard time like rape or insest, and getting pregnante. Can you imagine having that taken away from you and you can aport it, but have to deal with it, even though you cannot raise or give birth to a child due to medical issues. I think people need to lay off!

Look at it this way, 100 years ago, women had no rights, they were property of men. We gave up that right and considered women our equals in society. Now both men and women work hand in hand. Some women decided to take that right to the extreme. They hold the rights to their bodies, saying the unborn child is their property. and will not release those rights, They will kill their own children to keep that right. They will destroy the most basic aspect of their humanity to keep that right. I knew two women who died to make the baby come to term, I know others who risked their lives knowing the dangers of carrying the baby to term. My mom was one fo those. If they are considering killing their unborn child, what makes them a fit parent in the future? And as for the rape/incest argument, that isn't the case 95% of the time. Its some rich girl who got pregnant in high school, and wanted to go to college. Or some frisky housewife who had an affair with the neighbor or something like that.

Native - so, obeying God's word and banning abortion that will result in several thousand more deaths as Sean suggeted below is not murder? DUH...c'mon off the Bible wagon and think like a normal person and not a brainwashed cult follower.

I would like to see a United States federal and state constitutional amendentments to have any married (man and woman) to be enforced to ADOPT an American-born baby or young child instead of just hearing them say that they are against abortion or are Pro-Life. Why don't THEY do something positive for the unwanted babies or children not adopted. What? Too picky? The baby or child not pretty or cute enough? The child not nice? For shame, you Pro-Lifers, for not following your Christian beliefs...and DO what is Right!

It's all about responsibility and obeying God's word.....not your opinion, not what you want---it's about doing the right thing and murdering an unborn child is wrong. It's not your right to take a life, no matter what!

History repeats itself; we have a huge AIDS infection rate in countries where the majority of the population is Catholic due to beliefs around no birth control and now Focus on the Family has the influence to create an environment of back alley abortions resulting in many deaths of women throughout the country. Why can’t the religious right be removed from this equation entirely? Please help me understand who the real murderer’s are here?

Why does an innocent pre-born baby, whose father is a criminal rapist, deserve the death penalty?

Posted by: GENE THOMAS Location: COLORADO SPRINGS on Sep 4, 2008 at 05:40 PM
I AM A CHRISTIAN, I CONSIDER MYSELF LEVEL HEADED. I WISH THERE WAS NO NEED FOR ABORTION, BUT FINANCIALLY THE NATION CANNOT HANDLE FEEDING AN CARING FOR CHILDREN BORN SOMETIMES TO PEOPLE WHO CANNOT AFFORD THEM. THAT IS THE REALITY....

Posted by: JBM Location: COS on Sep 4, 2008 at 03:35 PM
I am against abortion; however, in the case of rape or incest or putting the womans life in danger, it should be up the woman to choose how to proceed. I am glad that the choice is still there in those cases! It is hard enough for a woman to deal with life after being victimized like that and to say that they have to carry a child that is "forced" upon them only complicates any healing process. Shame on anyone who says a victimized woman must be forced to continue to suffer!! If it was your choice to be in the position to get pregnant, then carry to term and give the child up for adoption if you don't want it.

This is disgusting. If a woman is raped or incest and a baby is produced because of it, I think the woman should have every right to abort the pregancy! I mean who the hell do these bible thumpers think they are? Unless each and everyone of them have been raped/incest and gotten pregnant from it, I really think they need to keep their mouths closed and protests silenced. And if any of these kind of thing would like to challenge me, make sure you go out, get raped or incest, make sure a pregnancy happens, have the emotional trauma and then come back and try to argue a point out.

"The group charges McCain voted to approve abortion funding for pregnancies stemming from rape or incest." First, to sit in a place refusing to move in a place where you don't pay the rent is so not effective communication, it's just unlawful. Second, I unashamedly agree with Dobson and McCain on the above quoted statement.
