Secretary of State Colin Powell says the U.S. and its partners will carry on the fight in Iraq until they win. Powell told an American Israel Public Affairs Committee conference in Washington that there is no doubt about the outcome-- that Saddam Hussein's regime will be driven out of power.
He said the world is thinking of the prisoners of war held by Iraq -- and that Iraq will be held accountable for their safety and treatment until they come home. Powell says Baghdad is "slowly being encircled" and that he has total confidence in the American war plan.
The Secretary of State also hit on other topics – demanding that Iraq stop its quest for weapons of mass destruction. He also called on Syria to stop supporting terrorism.
