KKTV 11 Sports Reporter Jesse Kurtz was on his morning jog when he came upon a man who was injured from a bike accident and had been reported missing Thursday morning.

James Nelson, 49, was last seen on Wednesday September 3 at about 8:00 p.m. when he left his home on Pebble Crest Way in the Gleneagle area for a bike ride. The family reported him missing when he did not return home. They say Nelson had left his wallet and cell phone at home and he did not ride very often so they knew something was wrong when he did not come home.

KKTV Sports Reporter Jesse Kurtz says he was running along a bike trail between Struthers Road and I-25 near mile marker 157, about 100 yards from Nelson's home, when he came upon the man. Kurtz says it appears the man may have flipped over the bicycle while he was riding and was knocked unconscious. Kurtz found him unconscious but breathing.

Kurtz was not aware of the search for a missing man but when he saw cop cars nearby, he went over and asked if they were looking for a man and informed them of his location. Nelson was taken to Penrose Hospital.

The El Paso County Sheriff's Office says Nelson is now being medically-sedated with head injuries. He also suffered some facial injuries and broken ribs. Doctors say they expect him to be okay.

Deputies, members of the Monument Police and Air Force Academy Security Police had been searching overnight for the man. El Paso County Search and Rescue had also joined the efforts to locate Nelson.
