Texas Storms

Jeri Tishmack stayed on the phone with her parents while they rode out a twister-spinning storm crouched between a sofa and a small living room table.

Tishmack says the "really high-pitched sound" she heard over the phone line was "terrifying."

Another woman huddled in a closet with her husband and two sons. They later found their barn gone and one of their horses stuck in a tree.

The tornado that took rural North Texas by surprise killed a teenager and an elderly couple. At least ten people were hurt so badly they had to be hospitalized.

Westminster, Texas doesn't have storm sirens, and officials say the tornado hit too fast for an emergency phone-calling system to respond.
