Police say two cars speed down a residential Pueblo street.
An elderly man accidentally finds himself in the race's path, and dies when his car is hit.
Police cars and fire trucks line the street at 8th and La Crosse as onlookers watch, horrifed at the sight of the fatal car accident.
Police say, it all started when two cars were drag racing east on 8th street in front of Safeway.
"One of the cars that was involved in the drag race struck the vehicle that was making the left hand turn," says Captain Linda Grisham, Pueblo Police Department.
That maroon Dodge Spirit making the left hand turn was driven by a local 74 year old man.
He died on impact.
Police say the driver of a blue Camaro, Mitchell Yararough, 25, was involved in the drag race.
It is still unclear exactly how fast he was going when he struck the victim's car.
"But we can tell by just looking at the damage on both vehicles that it was a pretty high rate of speed," says Grisham.
There were no skid marks on the road, leading police to believe the accident happened too quickly for either driver to try and stop.
"The male party who died probably never saw the vehicle coming at him," says Grisham.
Now, the young driver of the Camaro is in police custody, facing vehicular manslaughter charges.
"We've got kids or young adults who drag race that never stop and think about the consequences."
And, Grisham says, this deadly accident is a prime example.
Police are still looking for the other drag racer.
Witnesses say he was driving a small silver car.
