Heavy babies may have increased childhood cancer risk.

Researchers say babies who are heavy at birth - weighing more than eight pounds, eight ounces - may be at increased risk for two of the most common type of brain tumors among children.

Experts are carefully watching follow-up research for links between high birth weight and childhood cancers.

Some believe they can cut the risk by somehow managing the weight of infants as they develop in the womb.

Regulate baby weight before birth??? I wonder how much risk THAT will pose, especially as balanced with whatever the tiny precentage of increased risk of tumors for bigger babies is (assuming this study is even accurate)?? Also - bigger babies have generally better health - what happens when that gets factored in? Doctors can't accurately predict baby weight anyway - regularly 1 pounds off. This is ridiculous.

My grandson weighed 8 lbs 13 ounces at birth. He is now 7 months old and weighs around 20 lbs. He's a big boy because his father is big. What kind of research is being done for babies that are already here?
