A great reason to go to the fair this year, is to try the delicious fair food.

And folks at the Pueblo City-County Health Department are making sure everything served, is safe to eat.

From loaded baked potatoes, to sizzling burgers, and fresh squeezed lemonade-- 70 food vendors are on the state fairgrounds this year, serving up food for fair-goers from 10 am-midnight.

To make sure that food is safe for the public to eat, Alisa Decesaro with the Pueblo City-County Health Department inspects each temporary food booth.

She tests for safe food temperatures.

The cold foods need to be 41 degrees or below, and hot foods have to be at least 135 degrees.

"You'll see his potatoes were like at 171, so they're even more than perfect," says Decesaro..

She makes sure the food is kept within those temperature ranges to avoid any bacteria to grow, which can cause food borne illness.

Then, she uses chlorine strips to make sure the sanitizer levels are safe for the public.

Finally, she does a general inspection--making sure no one is touching any ready-to-eat foods with their bare hands.

So far this year, Decesaro says, things are running smoothly.

"I definitely have no problem at the state fair feeding my family, when we come out here for fun. So if your health inspector thinks its safe to eat, I would eat at the fair."
