Wednesday morning, members of the community, family and fellow firefighters gathered in Pueblo, to say good-bye to fallen firefighter Billy Pine.
Fire trucks from across the state line the street near Praise Assembly of God Church in Pueblo, as Billy Pine's friends in uniform come together with his family, to pay their final respects.
"This is a tragic loss for the Pueblo Fire Department," says Chief Chris Riley, Pueblo Fire Department.
The Pueblo Fire Department says they lost a great firefighter, and a great friend on August 19th, when billy passed away at the early age of 29.
"So many things were said about him today; the courage he has demonstrated as a firefighter throughout his career," says Chief Riley.
And its that same courage he showed through his two year battle with colon cancer.
He never gave up his dedication to his family, or career.
"We're extremely proud of him," says Chief Riley.
Billy leaves behind his wife of four years, Janis and their two-year-old daughter, Sydney.
"You look at his daughter Sydney, and Sydney has the same smile her dad had," says Chief Riley.
All of his loved ones agree, Billy also passed down his great sense of humor to his daughter.
"There was something about him that just brightened up your day, and you were able to walk away feeling good about yourself and about life. And we are truly truly going to miss fire engineer Billy Pine."
Billy had been with the Pueblo Fire Department since 2003.
If you would like to help the family, donations can be made to the Sydney Pine trust account at any Security Services Federal Credit Union.
