A hostage situation at the Arizona State Prison Complex-Tucson has ended peacefully.
A male inmate held a female corrections officer hostage in his cell for some six hours before finally surrendering.
The guard was uninjured.
The Department of Corrections says inmate Timothy Monk took guard Laurel Kennedy hostage with a shank made of a razor and plexiglass.
A DOC spokesman says the 34 year old Monk demanded a transfer to Montana in exchange for releasing Kennedy.
Instead, DOC arranged to have Monk transferred to maximum-security housing at the Arizona State Prison-Florence.
Monk is serving a 97-year prison sentence for armed robbery, sexual assault, kidnapping, aggravated assault, sexual abuse and first-degree burglary.
