Colorado Springs police confirm an 18-year-old man was stabbed Wednesday night on the city's west side.

Police say Nathan Hughes was stabbed in the neck at Bijou and 31st Street at the Westside Village Apartments around 9:15 p.m.

He is in critical, but stable condition at a hospital.

This is the second stabbing in two nights. Another victim, 23-year-old Nicholas Murphy was stabbed Tuesday night. But, Springs police say residents should not be alarmed.

"Obviously when people hear there's been two stabbings in Colorado Springs in two nights, there's always a fear is violent crime up in Colorado Springs? If you compare the statistics from 2008 compared to 2007 in terms of felony assault, we're actually down," Sgt. Creighton Brandt with the Colorado Springs Police Department.

A K-9 unit and police helicopter canvased the area Wednesday night looking for suspects and witnesses.

No arrests have been made in either case.

I just found out about this tragedy today. I had Nathan for a couple of years in middle school. A great looking kid, who had the highest test scores of any of my students...a brilliant young man, and I had some intelligent kids. His dad was always there for him, and my heart goes out to Nathan and his family. Your memory lives on. For the post asking where the family was...you should brush up on the facts. Tragedies happen so don't be so quick to judge. He was loved by his dad, brother, and many others who surrounded him. Back-off and give the family their peace.

There is no winners in this situation, Its hard enough to know some young person was killed! Why would this Woman Involve Two Innocent young people to do something that was so horrible, There is no Name for Karin Atkinson she is a waste of life!! I dont Feel sorry for her she is a mistake. that was made here on Earth!! Then look at this situation where were the parents of this young person Nathaniel Hughes? This young Man had no business taking money from anyone thinking he was going to swindle $1,500 out of a person and Thinking he could get away with it,and second of all nathaniel Hughes should have been looking for a Job or getting ready to go to the Military or College and preparing his life for the future, Why did the parents not encourge that for there kid, since now they want to wear Buttons and wanting to Blame and call names and hate and feel sorry for themselves, that just is not right, Now they have only Memories.
