Colorado Springs police confirm an 18-year-old man was stabbed Wednesday night on the city's west side.

Police say Nathan Hughes was stabbed in the neck at Bijou and 31st Street at the Westside Village Apartments around 9:15 p.m.

He is in critical, but stable condition at a hospital.

This is the second stabbing in two nights. Another victim, 23-year-old Nicholas Murphy was stabbed Tuesday night. But, Springs police say residents should not be alarmed.

"Obviously when people hear there's been two stabbings in Colorado Springs in two nights, there's always a fear is violent crime up in Colorado Springs? If you compare the statistics from 2008 compared to 2007 in terms of felony assault, we're actually down," Sgt. Creighton Brandt with the Colorado Springs Police Department.

A K-9 unit and police helicopter canvased the area Wednesday night looking for suspects and witnesses.

No arrests have been made in either case.

Nathan - see my response to Randy. I don't feel as though I need to pay for someone to leave. I didn't pay for them to come here. So, put up or shut up isn't really a very good defense. I also am entitled to my opinion. If you don't like where you are, go somewhere else... please.

Randy... I am guessing you are not from here, are you? People moved here for the great community and brought their problems. Am I willing to pay for people like you to move - no. I just want you to pack up and go. You got a lot of money for the house you sold in the area you left and got a great price on a bigger house here. Take some of that profit and go back.

Sounds like Julie can't accept that this place was (past tense) once a great city. Seems we had another stabbing Saturday night and a drive by shooting on Friday. Are you willing pay the moving expenses for those who speak truthfully about the problems in this city? Most here seem to use the "well the crime is worth in other cities" alibi. That may be true, but do we live there? Do we have any control over the actions in those cities? NO!

Julie, are you willing to pay for their moving expenses? Put up or......their entitled to speak the truth.

For those of you who do not like our "so called" great city I say go ahead and move back to where you came from. Our city was great until all of the people moved in and brought their problems with them.

there is nothing wrong with colorado. colorado is a beautiful state. people are bad not the state. same concept as guns don't kill, people do. all of you who are complaining about colorado, are you moving out or are you getting involved to do something about it. do you have neighborhood watch programs? do you know your neighbors? do you reach out to your community with care or do you sit in your home with blinders on and live in your own little world doing nothing except for yourself? if you're moving away, good luck finding a place to live where there's no crime. God's plan is unfolding. Find the truth. Jesus died for our sins, seek redemption and forgivness.

Nathan is my son..... a kind soul with the BIGGEST heart. His murder was senseless and cowardly. I LOVE YOU SON, you will ALWAYS be my Hero! DAD

Man, can't you people see how this city has gone down the tubes? Just drive around on a Sunday and all you see are thugs on the roads. This place has changed so much. South side is looking like slumvillage, Academy is the new circle. No jobs, no opportunities. This city has lost its vibe from 10 years ago. its disgusting!

Posted by: Lori Location: Colorado Springs on Aug 21, 2008 at 01:00 PM
This is a GREAT city to live in, just look around, it is beautiful. Yes, the crime rate is scary lately, but it is everywhere! We need more neighborhood watches!!!!!!
