Springs police are investigating a fatal stabbing in Colorado Springs that happened around 2:00 a.m. Wednesday morning. It happened on the 700-block of Swope Avenue, east of the Olympic training center.

The victim has been identified as 23-year-old Nicholas Murphy. After the attack, he was transported to Memorial Hospital where he later died.

Springs Police say the stabbing happened during a fight in the street in front of Murphy's home. The fight reportedly involved Murphy and some of his family members.

The motive for the stabbing has not been determined as yet. Two individuals were seen running from the location of the incident and are being sought by police for any information they may have regarding this crime.

The method and manner of death will be determined by the El Paso County Coroner’s Office. If determined to be a homicide, this will be the 18th homicide in Colorado Springs in 2008.

Anyone with information concerning this case is encouraged to contact police at 444-7000, or they may call Pikes Peak Area Crime Stoppers at 719-634-STOP (7867).
