Crystie Hardy and Mark Alton Friend were in a preliminary hearing Tuesday in the death of Madyson Bogard.
The court heard testimony from the El Paso County Coroner, Dr. Bux, about Madyson and about what killed her. The court also heard testimony from a couple of the Colorado Springs Officers that responded to the scene.
A police affidavit released back in January described multiple bruises on Madyson and it included reports of Madyson being hit repeatedly in the head, held underwater and sexually abused.
Dr. Bux testified to the fact that Madyson died from lack of oxygen to her brain that was caused by a seizure. He also stated that he believes the seizure was brought on by taking blows to the head and that Madyson had a fractured skull and multiple bruises all over her body.
He did also say, however, that he saw no evidence of the little girl drowning and no evidence of sexual abuse.
Both Madyson's mother and her mother's boyfriend are facing 1st degree murder and child abuse charges.
Police says that both Hardy and Friend have reported different stories. One of them being her injuries came from the little girl slipping on the ice.
