Prosecutors say a Fort Carson soldier suspected of shooting and wounding another soldier is tied to a June double homicide in Colorado Springs.
The revelation came yesterday as prosecutors argued against having the $500,000 bond reduced for Pfc. Jomar Dionisio Falu-Vives. Chief Deputy District Attorney Diana May says the same military-style assault rifle used in the May shooting of a Fort Carson soldier for which Falu-Vives is a suspect is the same weapon tied to two June slayings.
Killed in that shooting were 21-year-old Cesar Ramirez Ibanez and 18-year-old Amairany Cervantes.
According to court documents obtained by 11 News, forensic evidence shows the same assault rifle was used in the double homicide and the attempted murder of a Ft. Carson soldier.
The crime scenes are less than a mile apart in a Southeast Colorado Springs neighborhood.
Investigators say Falu-Vives told them he was in Texas on military leave and someone may have come into his apartment, used the assault rifle in both crimes and then returned the weapon to his apartment.
Falu-Vives is expected to be back in court next month. No word yet on if and when the District Attorney's Office plans to file murder charges.
