Bouncing a check is getting more expensive.
Bankrate.com says a survey of the nation's 25 largest markets shows the average fee for a bounced check up 14 cents from the fall, to just over 27 dollars.
The average cost of using automated teller machines is up six cents to one dollar, 60 cents.
The survey says 98 percent of banks with ATM's now charge a fee.
There are things consumers can do to eliminate those fees, or at least lessen the impact.
To avoid a bounced-check fee, Bankrate-dot-com advises signing up for overdraft protection by linking a savings account to your checking account.
You can avoid ATM fees by getting cash back when you use a debit card to make a purchase.
