Firefighters contained a wind-whipped wildfire that scorched 18 hundred acres near Fountain in El Paso County and forced the evacuation of about 100 people.

Fountain Police Deputy Chief Mark Barnett says the blaze was contained around eight o'clock last night.

A small shopping center as well as apartments and a mobile home park were evacuated as a precaution.

The fire also forced the closure of U.S. Highway 85-87 from I-25 south through the Security and Widefield area.

It was not immediately known how the fire started.

Meanwhile in Johnstown in Weld County, fire officials there say mulch in train cars began smoldering yesterday afternoon.

Several fire departments were able to contain the fire to the train cars.
