All aboard! The Pikes Peak Cog Railway kicked off it's 116th Season Friday, with two round-trips towards Pikes Peak, from Manitou Springs. Normally, the Cog runs all 14,110 feet to the summit of Pikes Peak, but because of high winds, 12,000 feet was Rocky Mountain high enough for the Cog's opening runs.
The Cog was completed in 1891, but this is the first season operators say they will begin running the train year-round, giving more people a chance to climb aboard.
Trains depart seven days a week from the historic depot at 515 Ruxton Avenue in Manitou Springs. After mid-November and throughout the winter months, the Railway will run weekly on a reduced schedule.
