Hundreds of people opened their hearts and their wallets today in Pueblo, to help support dying Pueblo firefighter Billy Pine and his family.

Wednesday's benefit barbecue is just one of several fundraisers put on, as Pine continues his fight against colon cancer.

The 29-year-old has been battling colon cancer for nearly two years.

His wife Janis, and their two-year-old daughter Sydney say the support they've received from this community has been more than they could ask for.

Through his battle with cancer, his loved ones say he has stayed extremely courageous and an inspiration to an entire community.

"He's a memorable man. If you've ever met him you know he's kind-hearted and he's a giver. He's great," says Janis.

The Pueblo firefighters have raised enough money to send his daughter, Sydney, to college.

And donations can still be made to the Sydney Pine account at any Security Services Federal Credit Union branch.
