A militant group is claiming responsibility for Saturday's deadly crash of a US helicopter in Iraq.

A group called the al-Rashideen Army says it downed the Apache copter, which crashed southwest of Baghdad. The statement, which could not be verified, was posted on an Islamic Web site.

The U-S has confirmed that two crew members were aboard. They are presumed dead.

A military statement says efforts to recover the bodies of the crew are continuing.
