A rude awaking Friday morning for a lot of car owners on the north side of Colorado Springs.

Police say at least 50 people had their car windows smashed in during an apparent vandalism spree.

Police say the suspects smashed windows with a baseball bat and the majority of the vandalism took place in the area of Vickers Road and Rangewood and Dublin Boulevard and Union early Friday morning.

Police say the suspects were driving a white 1987 Mazda 626.
If your car is among the many vandalized Friday morning you are asked to contact police or if you have any information on the suspects contact crimestoppers at 634-STOP.

db, most likely more than what would be received in restitution.

Posted by: db Location: Colorado Springs on Jul 23, 2008 at 11:01 AM
For those of you waiting for restitution, have any of you looked into what it would take to file a civil suit in small claims court?

Robert, i am in the same boat... all the tire slashings down in widefield, my car was hit twice in 3 weeks... They caught the kids, but have not heard about any kind of reembursment yet.......... that put me out 1200 bucks..... truck tires are the worst to replace....

Anonymous- What is not stolen is at times destroyed. Sometimes there is anger behind destruction. Why are people forced to alter their property in order to protect it?

If they catch those SOB they need to go to AZ where that tough sherrif is the one that makes you wear PINK inmate outfit, he seems to be getting the job done, unlike CSPD or the DA .

Bj, kids with parents on welfare are more apt to steal, not destroy. These kids have no idea about people having to work hard for their possesions because their parents are rich and give them whatever they want. Bill, if they keep smashing your mailbox build a steel frame inside of it like many of us did in the Black Forest and hope you don't get sued by the kid who shatters his arm and bat on your mailbox! The mailbox smashings have stopped up here by the way!

I had my car messed with 4 months ago, and the little punks where caught by the police while they were doing it. The court system is so backed up that I think I will never get payment for the damages they did. But I still get letters every month saying they are in pre-trial conference. What a waste of time and effort. You can't be made right now a days.

Bill it won't do any good to catch these losers. The D.A.'S may be out not getting a ticket, and they still have that revolving door. Seems like they have that catch and release thing going on. The other scenerio might be the parents won't pay monetary restitution because they are on welfare or are to busy blaming society for their screwed up off spring issues.I didn't even know C/S has law enforcement. WoW!

Well stated Brian. Maybe more of us need to make an online citizens complaint at http://www.springsgov.com

I think we need more traffic control officers. That will solve this.

CSPD doesn't have the time to do police work. Police work would involve running the plates of the damaged vehicles and contacting the owners. Instead, "call us or crime stoppers if you know anything". Obviously, CSPD is not interested in finding anything out for themselves. Catching vandals doesn't generate enough revenue. Speeders are the "real" criminals.

Audrey my car and at least two other I saw this am were hit in the Wagon Trails neighborhood at Dublin and Bridle Pass.

We had our cars vandalized last night for the second time in a year. I agree with Falling Rock Yes I would think that these punks would benefit from some good old fashioned a** busting restitution. That would be more satisfying to me than cash money. I am sure the people who did this dont have to work for anything they own, or they would have a little respect for what other people have worked hard for. BTW Falling Rock-- Thank you for serving our country and protecting our freedom. To the punks, be thankful you do live in the good ol USA where your rights are protected or as Fred sugggested...you would be hung in the streets and smashed with baseball bats....too bad for us victims....

Dan, I was thinking the same exact thing and then I read your post! I'm sure you can now file a case online at their website. Crime is obviously out of control when you can file cases online! Get those speeders!

Posted by: Audrey Location: Dublin/Rangewood on Jul 18, 2008 at 12:17 PM
Come on! Give us the exact names of the neighborhoods that were hit. I'm in a neighborhood at the intersection of Dublin and Rangewood and want to know how close they got to me! MORE DETAILS folks! The addresses have to be in the police reports.

I had my mail box obliterated (again)several weeks ago so I understand the frustration with useless, stupid punks running amok. I pray that I'll catch them someday doing something bad. I'll definately be on the front pages and hopefully not charged with a crime. Falling Rock...you are wise, terrific and we love you. You're suggestion is perfect. But, who's going to clean their wussie shorts, if you know what I mean...ha, ha! God bless you and all our troops in the line of fire. For Dan, I understand. I've been thinking of having an infrared device located on my property so I can catch these punks. BUT, it's unfortunate that we, as potential victims, have to take these types of measures, often costly, to protect our property and lives. My only problem is that they would probably get a slap on the wrist, if that, and be sent on their way. I believe IF the parents were held responsible, vandalism would plummet and we'd be much happier...eh??

When they catch the idiots hang them in the street and let the victims smash them with baseball bats

Posted by: Davod Location: Crimson Cir on Jul 18, 2008 at 11:33 AM
This is not new. For 20 years, our cars have had broken windows, hit-run damages, eggs, break-ins, rocks into motor homes, etc. The CSPD does not keep track of these, so as to show a pattern in the area. We need to petition CSPD, or have news agencies be proactive in protecting our person and property.

And this happened on the Good side of town? hmmm?

Posted by: Dan Location: C/S on Jul 18, 2008 at 08:43 AM
If your car is among the many vandalized Friday morning you are asked to contact police or if you have any information on the suspects contact crimestoppers at 634-STOP. WTF are they going to do? I still don't have resitution for my windows that were shot out over a year ago.

Posted by: Falling Rock Location: Baghdad,Iraq on Jul 18, 2008 at 07:59 AM
They should find those punks and send they over here,a few weeks over here and they will change there ways,
