Updated: 05/14/2013 - I'm still focused on meeting my goal of doing a pull-up. And I'm almost there! But I'm always getting this question:
The treatment center where a teenager died earlier this week revamped its procedures four years ago after restraining injuries drew the attention of state human services workers.
Fifteen-year-old Orlena Parker stopped breathing Monday while
being restrained by six women and a man at the Devereux Cleo
Wallace Center. Officials said Parker, who weighed 270 pounds,
charged a staff member.
Colorado Department of Human Services officials questioned Cleo
Wallace's restraint practices in 1993 after a boy died at the
company's Westminster center, one of two centers it runs.
The department investigated the Colorado Springs facility in
1999 after 32 physical restraints were reported in one month and a
boy suffered a cracked vertebra while being restrained.
