The Lone Tree Police Department says DNA evidence helped them catch a man accused of sexual assault on a teenage girl.

Police say the girl was assaulted in her vehicle in the parking lot between the Neighborhood Library at Lone Tree and Cook Creek Pool around 5 p.m. on July 7.

DNA evidence submitted to the Colorado Bureau of Investigation (CBI) revealed a DNA match to 25-year-old Scott J. Sylvia. Sylvia is already registered as a Convicted Offender Index.

Police say the investigation revealed Sylvia was homeless and living in the Denver area. Sylvia was arrested by the Denver Police Department on the morning of July 12 for an unrelated crime, the same day his name came up as matching the victim's DNA.

Sylvia has been charged with Kidnapping, Aggravated Robbery and Sexual Assault. He's being held at the Douglas County Jail.
