New City Council Member for Colorado Springs

Colorado Springs City Council swore in its newest member Tuesday afternoon at formal council. Bernie Herpin replaced Richard Skorman as councilmen at-large. Skorman stepped down to take a job with Senator Ken Salazar's office.

City Council voted Herpin into the seat 5 to 3. Herpin says he will listen to all sides of any issue. He also says he understands that he is taking the seat of Skorman, known for his liberal views on the council.

“I will listen to all citizens. I may not agree with everybody, but everybody will get a fair hearing in front of me,” said Herpin.

Herpin does consider himself a conservative Republican.

Some citizens are opposed to Herpin on the council. They complain they voted for Skorman because of his left views.

“Many of us who voted for Richard, continue to work for what we believe is the good of Colorado Springs and all of its citizens, feel even less enfranchised,” said Mary Sprunger-Froese.
