The preacher's wife accused of killing her husband is scheduled for an initial court appearance today in Tennessee.
A friend says Mary Winkler told her she is "sorry for everything she had done."
Pam Killingsworth says Winkler never said why her husband was shot.
Mary Winkler has been charged with first-degree murder in the death of her husband Matthew, the pastor of the Fourth Street Church of Christ in Selmer, about 80 miles east of Memphis.
She was arrested in Alabama.
At services yesterday, the congregation was asked not to speculate about why the popular minister was killed.
Elder Robert Shackelford urged people to "be very cautious about what you say or even what you think."
Court papers offer no hints about a motive.
