Valentine's Slaying

A man who told police he shot two teenage boys at random to, quote, "get something off my chest" was recommended for release from prison.

Twenty-six-year-old Jeron Grant and an accomplice were charged in the 1997 Valentine's Day deaths of 13-year-old Andrew Westbay and 15-year-old Scott Hawrysiak. The boys were walking home from a neighbor's house when they were gunned down.

Grant was convicted of accessory to manslaughter in Westbay's death and being an accessory to second-degree murder in Hawrysiak's death. He was sentenced to 12 years in prison, which was reduced because of good behavior.

During a parole hearing Tuesday, parole board member Curtis Devin recommended Grant be released a few weeks earlier than his October release date.

Grant still must serve an 18-month sentence in an El Paso County Jail for a contempt of court conviction, and he will be on parole for three years following his release.
