Man in Custody Following Suspicious Package at White House

The Secret Service says a man is in custody in Wednesday's suspicious package incident at the White House.

A spokesman for the agency says the man tossed the package onto the North Lawn. The spokesman says the suspect has done "a similar act in the past."

The agency says the items have never been dangerous before, but agents have to follow protocol each time.

A remote-controlled device was used to probe the object.

The item was spotted after President Bush took off by helicopter to an event in West Virginia.
