Valentine's Day Slayings

A man who told police he shot two teenage boys at random to "get something off my chest" was recommended for release from prison.

26 year old Jeron Grant an accomplice were charged in the 1997 Valentine's Day deaths of 13 year old Andrew Westbay and 15 year old Scott Hawrysiak.

The boys were walking home from a neighbor's house when they were gunned down.

Grant was convicted of accessory to manslaughter in Westbay's death and being an accessory to second-degree murder in Hawrysiak's death.

He was sentenced to 12 years in prison, which was reduced because of good behavior.

During a parole hearing yesterday, parole board member Curtis Devin recommended Grant be released a few weeks earlier than his October release date.

Grant still must serve an 18 month sentence in an El Paso County jail for a contempt of court conviction, and he will be on parole for three years following his release.
