Sunday may have been Veterans Day, but for 250 Fort Carson soldiers and their families, Monday is the real day to celebrate.
The soldiers, members of the 4th Brigade Combat Team, 4th Infantry Division, are returning home from a seven-month deployment in Afghanistan. Their welcome home ceremony is scheduled for 4:45 p.m. at the Special Events Center on post.
While deployed, the soldiers had responsibility over a 10,000 square mile area, in which they performed security operations and partnered with the four provincial governments presiding over the region.
For comparison, 10,000 square miles is roughly the size of the state of Maryland. More than three million Afghans live in the region.
Fort Carson reminds families that the homecoming time is subject to change. Keep checking here for any changes to the schedule.
