If Colorado Springs or Pueblo drivers think they have it bad, the drivers in Trinidad, CO say, they've got it worse.

Gas stations in Trinidad are charging up to 50 cents more than in other Colorado cities.

The pinch people feel at the pump is now a full-blown punch for residents in Trinidad.

When 11 News pulled up to the Valero gas station,Casey Mead, the station attendant, was changing the board from the already high price of $4.29 for regular, to $4.39.

"Our gas prices go up every other week at least ten cents," says Mead.

Which has drivers in Trinidad asking the same question.

"I always wonder why?" says Joshua Hernandez, Trinidad.

"It's outrageous, I don't understand how you can go 40 miles down the road and it's 50 cents a difference," says Frank Luna, Trinidad.

AAA says people can hold down their overall gasoline costs by car pooling, keeping their vehicles well-maintained, not driving aggressively, and slowing down a bit.

Remember who's in charge in Congress, and has been for the last two plus years, when you feel the pain at the pump!

Jay, if we wanted any garbage from you we would have squeezed your head.

Angel, what Bush didn't mention is that with U.S. consumption at 20.6 million barrels of oil a day, the ANWR bounty, if all went well, could only satisfy 5 percent of the U.S. thirst. That wouldn't have much impact on eventual gas prices. More importantly, even if legislation to tap the oil reserves were passed today, it would take years to reap the crude. An EIA analysis in 2004 concluded that "between 7 and 12 years were required from an approval to explore and develop the coastal region of ANWR until first production." The peak production of which wouldn't come about for another five years or so. So even assuming Congress gave the go-ahead today, the first oil wouldn't begin flowing until sometime between 2015 and 2020, with peak output half a decade later. ANWR coastal plain oil production in 2025 is projected to constitute between 0.5 to 1.3 percent of total world oil consumption.

Hey "G" If you dont like KKTV's reporting why dont you go get hired, and do something about it? Or are you one of those people, who complains, and does nothing. Honestly i rather read "real" comments, instead of people complaining.... thanks

As of Saturday night July 12, 2008, gasoline at the stations in Trinidad is at $4.39 for the cheap stuff. Yes, I buy my gas in Pueblo or Walsenburg, as I have to go to pueblo at least once a week. Not only is the gas cheaper but I average five mpg better on the Pueblo gas.

I too am unimpressed with the reporting from KKTV. At least Betty Sexton has some smoking hot legs!

if you have lived in trinidad any time at all you know why our prices are highest in the state, because J.R.DURAN owns almost all the gas stations in trinidad. You can drive to weston, Co or to Walsenburg, CO and purchase fuel for less than here in trinidad. It has impacted all the business in trinidad because of the prices that MR. DURAN extorts from the citizens of his home town. People are going to pueblo and colorado springs to shop just so that they can fuel up for less, and yes they fill up before coming back to trinidad, and still have 3/4 of a tank of fuel left in their tanks when they get back to trinidad, because the fuel up north is a better quality and cheaper. MR. DURAN needs to start buying better quality fuel if he wishes to contiue to charge the high prices.

Is this supposed to be a news story or a minor tidbit in a newsletter? Whatever happened to investigative reporting? Let's not forget to thank AAA for stating the obvious. Thanks to News 11 for repeating the words "why" without bothering to find an answer and for reminding us to count our blessings.

You can also keep the price of gas down by drilling in ANWR congress idiots. Charging our own oil companies taxes to drill and distribute and then taxing the American people to drive is ridiculous. Congress charges 15% to the American person to fill up their tank. They complain to the oil companies who charge less than 7% for profit. The oil companies have their hands tied because tree huggers have said you can't drill off of the coast (but we'll let other countries do it and then buy their gas), you can't drill in a desolate area of Alaska. Are these people serious? We'll buy gas from a country who drills in ours because we can't do it ourselves because of some Liberal agenda? I think these people need psychological help and a grip in reality. Maybe some of those drugs they did in the 60's are coming back to haunt them. Our country would be better served to get fresh blood in there with real ideas, not slogans that are good for sound bites.
