The economic outlook improved slightly in February despite the threat of war, higher energy prices and stagnant hiring in the mountain states.

The business conditions index compiled by Creighton University
economics professor Ernie Goss in Omaha, Nebraska, was 52-point-6
for Colorado, Utah and Wyoming, up from 51-point-5 in January.

A number above 50 indicates growth.

The employment reading for the three mountain states was only
48-point-1 indicating that businesses are asking employees to work
harder and longer.

Supply managers in the survey say higher energy prices were
strongly affecting the prices they paid for raw materials and
supplies.
