Colorado Springs police have charged a man with attempted murder for assaulting another man at Dorchester Park on South Nevada.

When police arrived on scene they found 42-year-old William Wilson with apparent trauma to the head. He was taken to Memorial Hospital and is listed in critical and unstable condition.

Jeremiah Phelan, 27, has been charged with Attempted First Degree Murder and First Degree Assault. He is in custody at the El Paso County Criminal Justice Center.

Police say they were able to track Phelan down with help from witnesses.

Bob Brown lives nearby, he says he know the two men who got into the fight.

"They are homeless," Brown said.

Police won't confirm that but Brown is just worried the victim isn't going to make it.

"We heard that he hit the concrete and split his head open and the other individual continued to beat his head in," Brown said.

Police are not releasing a photo of the suspect because the incident remains under investigation.

If you have any information about this crime you are asked to call Crime Stoppers at 634-STOP.
