A teen accused in the stabbing death of a former Walsenburg mayor will be charged as an adult. Seventeen-year-old Joe Valentine Romero IV is scheduled to appear in court Monday.

Romero is accused of killing 91 year old George Turner in July of 2002 in what investigators believe may have been a random act of violence.

An arrest affidavit says Romero's mother told a friend that Romero had killed Turner.

But Saturday she said she doesn't think her son is guilty. Romero's mother also said her son had been on medication for depression and that he is a good kid.

Turner was the Mayor of the small Colorado town in the early 1950's.
