Most of Fort Carson's 3rd Armored Cavalry Regiment soldiers are back in Colorado Springs, so their families are getting used to being back under the same roof.

The Mountain Post is helping with the process, but having its soldiers attend Veteran’s University Reintegration classes. The soldiers’ wives are also invited to go to the classes.

The classes deal with subjects like combat stress and strengthening the soldiers’ marriages.

The Thayers are going to the two day workshop. They’re family has changed a lot in the last year. The couple had their first child last June. SGT James Thayer was able to fly home for the birth, but left for Iraq six days later, to return to duty.

"I'm home with what I've been working for my whole life," said SGT Thayer.

Both SGT Thayer and his wife Anna think the classes are a good idea.

"They're truly going to help us," said Anna Thayer.

Jill Nugin teaches the Marriage Enrichment Class, which is part of the workshop.

"I think when we get back together, we discover we had to be stronger in other areas,” said Nugin, “then we have to kind of mesh that thing back together."

Nugin says her class gives the couples the tools to deal with conflict. She says that conflict can be about anything, from finances to disciplining children.

"Just things they can do to sorta, kinda feel back in with their families," said Nugin.

The Thayers say the transition back into family life is going well.

"This is what its suppose to be like, we're a family again," said Anna Thayer.

But they welcome any tools that could help them in the next few months.

"I have every faith in the world we're going to be alright," said Anna Thayer.

The classes will be held through March 17th. The classes have been expanded since the Regiment returned from its first Iraq deployment.

Fort Carson officials say the course isn't offered as a reaction to the rise in deadly domestic violence experienced at Fort Bragg in 2002. However, they say they learn more about what areas they can improve every time the Mountain Post's soldiers deploy.
