Colorado Springs police officer Jared Jensen is killed in the line of duty.

Police Chief Luis Velez confirmed the sad news to our Betty Sexton shortly before 2:00 Wednesday afternoon.

Jensen joined the force in 2002. Chief Velez says Jensen was married.

The incident happened this morning near the 7-11 store right outside of Memorial Park, just east of the downtown area on Hancock.

Police say the suspect is Jereme Lamberth (AKA Schweinhardt). He was wanted for attempted murder, after police say he stabbed his sister earlier this month.
