Xcel Energy says it expects the average heating bill for a Colorado home to drop by 24 percent next month, amid falling wholesale prices and warmer weather.
That would mean the average March home heating bill would be 96 dollars, compared with 126 dollars in February.
The bill for a small business would drop from 579 dollars to 447 dollars.
Yesterday Xcel asked state utility regulators to approve a 16 percent decrease in the price of gas for its Colorado customers. If approved by the Colorado Public Utilities Commission, the new price would take effect March 1st.
Xcel Energy serves one-point-two million natural gas customers in Colorado.
