The Denver Post is reporting that Emma Salazar, mother of Congressional members John and Ken Salazar, is conscious and in good spirits after she suffered a cerebral aneurysm.
The 83-year-old mother of eight underwent tests at Swedish Medical Center's neurology department Thursday afternoon.
U.S. Senate minority leader Harry Reid says the entire Salazar family is in Denver with their mother.
He made an announcement this afternoon on the Senate floor that she was extremely ill.
A cerebral aneurysm occurs when there's swelling in the weakened wall of a blood vessel in the brain.
Emma Salazar had triple bypass heart surgery in 1998.
Her heart currently functions at about 25 percent of its capacity.
She also takes medication to control her high blood pressure.
