State lawmakers are trying to whittle down the list of groups who want exceptions to a statewide ban on smoking when the measure hits the House floor today.
A House committee gave initial approval to the proposal, warning it would be better for the Legislature to take the initiative rather than leaving it to outside groups threatening to put a measure on the November ballot.
The bill already has been amended to exempt people living in publicly owned housing to allow people to smoke in their residences, but lawmakers refused to exempt veterans organizations.
The proposal would still allow smoking in the smoking lounge at Denver International Airport and in cigar bars.
