Colorado Springs Cop Crashes in Obama Motorcade

A Colorado Springs Police Officer was injured while traveling with the Barack Obama Motorcade.

According to police, the motorcade was southbound on I-25 near the Bijou exit when a van hit the motor-officer from behind. The motorcycle went down injuring the officer.

The motorcade was taking Mr. Obama to the Broadmoor Resort for a campaign fundraiser, and the accident caused Mr. Obama to walk onto the stage late.

A few minutes into the fundraiser, Mr. Obama announced the incident to the crowd. He said he had spoken by telephone to the officer, Jerry Orvin, who was released from Memorial Hospital.

“It turns out he’s OK,” Mr. Obama said. “I called him and he said it’s all part of the job. He’s doing all right.”

Police say Officer Orvin suffered minor injuries, scrapes and bruises.

The driver of the van was cited.

If you see the skid marks of this incident the officer crossed the whiteline in front of the van

I HAVE SEEN OFFICERS ON THEIR CELL PHONES WELL FRIVING MORE THEN ONCE

The accident caused Obama to be late? So what!!! The condition of the officer is much more important than Obama being late for his speech. The fact that he was late should not even be part of this story. I hope the officer is doing well and recovering from the accident. Thank you to all of the brave CSPD officers out there.

There were officer fatalites in HI and NM during presidential visits in the last few years. Slow down people, watch those flashing lights, or take an alternate route, please!

The accident during the Jared Jensen New Life procession involved an Arvada Police officer not CSPD and the training and testing process for motor officers is one of the toughest training courses in the country. Unfortunately, some drivers are too distracted or unskilled to hear and see over 20 vehicles in a motorcade all with flashing lights and sirens going.

Since you want to change the story, jeff, maybe the cop was on a cell phone. "Come on cops wake up and smell the coffee. Don't talk on your cell and drive at the same time otherwise more accidents like this will happen"..lol

Lucky the officer was wearing safety equipment or the outcome could have been worse. I bet the driver of the van was talking on a cellphone. Come on public wake up and smell the coffee dont talk on cell and drive at the same time otherwise more accidents like this will happpen

I'm glad the officer is alright... unfortunately CSPD is notorious for getting in accidents with a motorcade like this! During the funeral procession of Jared Jensen from New Life Church to the POC at Fillmore and I-25, thankfully neither officer involved was injured during this, but it makes the public wonder how good the driver training is of these officers, especially during an oficial function like this!
