The government isn't listening to its own advice when it comes to the risk of identity theft.

The Federal Trade Commission advises Americans not to carry their Social Security card in their wallet or write their Social Security number on a check. But rules of several government agencies put the numbers of at least 52 million Americans at potential risk.

The IRS tells taxpayers to write their number on checks.

The Defense Department issues "common access" identity cards that include the numbers.

And at least 44 million Medicare insurance cards include the beneficiary's full Social Security number. But the head of the Medicare agency says don't carry the card, unless you're going to need it.

try getting help from the SSA when identify theft happens due the practice of the gov freely sharing/requiring your social security number on everything, you'll get a "sorry", unless your life is threatened - hire a lawyer to deal with the creditors.

The government contradicts itself on a constant basis. Why is this particular instance newsworthy? The government is a joke and so is the "American Dream."

The other day I got a letter of denial for a credit card. Then I notice that I never try to open a credit line for 30,000 thousand. I would never had applied for a credit card for that amount. So I called the appropriate people to put an alert on my all my financial institutes.

Barack Obama preaches change but still has not come out said just how he will accomplish change for the better. Higher Taxes? Weaker Military? No definitive approach to illegal immigration or the demise of the "Sanctuary Cities" in this country. How can we trust a man whose aquaintences are admitted terrorists and was a member of a church whose leader spewed racially devicive retoric for 20 years.
