Samuel Alito is on his way to the Supreme Court. His confirmation is all but guaranteed after a last ditch effort by some Democrats to block it failed. With a vote of 72 to 25, the Senate has agreed to end their debate over Alito's nomination.
Alito now needs only a simple majority to win confirmation during the final vote. At least 53 Republicans and four Democrats have said they will vote "yes."
