Lawmakers Consider Bill to Extend Filing of Lawsuits for Sex Offenses

State lawmakers will consider a proposal Thursday that would remove limits on the statute of limitations for filing civil lawsuits for sex offenses against a child for two years.

Colorado's three Roman Catholic Bishops issued a joint statement criticizing the measure, saying the same civil and criminal penalties should apply to public and private institutions.

The bill would apply to churches and other private institutions, but it would not affect sex-abuse complaints against employees of public schools or government entities.
