Officials are warning parents in the west part of Colorado Springs about the possibility of a mountain lion on the prowl. Some believe a mountain lion recently killed a deer in the Mountain Shadows neighborhood.
Neighbors awoke to find a grisly scene in the intersection of Ashton Park Place and Courtney Drive, a few feet from the nearest school bus stop.
It appeared a deer died there, likely after a mountain lion attack.
As a safety precaution, officials at Chipeta Elementary School put together a letter for parents, asking them to keep a closer eye on their kids over the next few days.
"We don't want them to be alarmed, we just want them to be vigilant in their attention to what's going on around their children," said District 11 spokesperson Elaine Naleski.
Officials reccommend parents send their kids to school in groups as a standard safety measure.
