Funeral services are pending for one of the world's most well-known physicians, who's credited with performing thousands of gender-alteration procedures throughout his career.
Dr. Stanley Biber died Monday in Pueblo, where he had been hospitalized with pneumonia for two weeks.
He was 82.
Biber performed an estimated 45-hundred to five-thousand sex-change operations during a career that spanned 35 years. Biber said he performed his first such operation in 1969.
He had also been a community activist, fundraiser, a Las Animas County commissioner, and Mount San Rafael Hospital board member.
