The Colorado Supreme Court is weighing a proposal to let jurors ask questions during state criminal trials.
A court committee recommended the idea after a study in which
more than 19-hundred jurors participated in criminal trials where
they could submit written questions.
The justices heard testimony on the proposal yesterday. They
have not said when they will decide.
Supporters say research shows people learn more when they are
allowed to participate rather than observe.
Jurors in Colorado civil cases are already allowed to ask
questions. Arizona has allowed juror questions in criminal trials
ince 1995. In 34 other states, judges decide whether jurors can
ask questions.
