Firefighters say wet weather Sunday helped them get the Nash Ranch Fire completely contained. The fire, in Park County near the town of Guffey, started last week from a lightning strike.

As of 9 a.m. Monday, all evacuated residents were allowed to return home.

Crews will still be out keeping an eye on things for a few days, in case any hot spots flare up.

There will also be some cleanup in the burn area, including work to restore bull dozer lines to a more natural state. That will help prevent erosion in those areas. Also, some fences that were cut during the firefighting efforts will have to be repaired.

Here are some numbers released by fire officials Monday morning:

• Time/Date Started: June 26, 2008
• Location: 10 miles East of Guffey.
• Cause: Lightning
• Estimated Cost: $626,000 as of end of business 6/29/08
• Fuels: Grass, ponderosa, mixed conifers.
• Size: 1,115 acres.
• Containment: 100 %
• Resources Committed:
o 1 – Type 1 Crew, 2 – Type 2 Crews, 20 – Engines, 2 - Water Tenders, 1 – Type 3 Helicopter (expected release today), 1- Camp Crew, Approximately 223 personnel.

To Marie below , I disagree, it is probably the Sherriff. Most of these guys are C.S.P.D. dropouts and were not accepted by other agencies, so, they decided to come up the pass and work for 'Billy Bob' himself. Although I have to admit he 'the real Sherriff' is doing a good job cleaning up the image of T-County and holding his deputies to a higher standard than others have in the past. I even believe they are now spelling "Suspect" correctly, as before on a couple of occasions it was spelt s-u-s-p-e-k-t.

It would be nice to have an current update about the fire. When I came to your web site today I didn't see anything on the fire in our state ,but yet their is information about California. You should keep us informed about OUR fire.

I live up here and I hope after last night's rain that the fire is out! Anyone in the fire area needing help with animals can contact me.

I'm not happy with the lack of local coverage about the Nash Ranch Fire. My parents have evacuated their home and have little to no information about the status of the fire, let alone the info about their home and neighbors homes. I've been trying to be as informed as possible and have provided as much or more info than has been available to them locally. These residents rely on your information and are lacking without it. Please try to be more forthcoming with as much coverage as possible.

News just came in from neighbors that all residents except those living on Cherokee will be allowed to return Sunday. Officials are asking that people not bring their animals back until Monday. A great big thank you to all of the brave firefighters who have worked so hard over the past few days.

After watching the 5:30 News Saturday, I understand why there is no update here. Both newscasters stumbled so badly through the story that I still didn't know what was going on after they finished. So I guess they weren't sure themselves.

Posted by: Jon Location: Colo Springs on Jun 28, 2008 at 03:50 PM
So we know what was happening on Friday. But what about today? Is the fire out, or has the whole county been wiped off the map? It would sure be nice to have an update.

need an update please....still on stand-by???....hear the copters....need info!!!

Posted by: Linda Location: Florissant on Jun 28, 2008 at 01:40 PM
I can't understand why this isn't on the news. We hear about the 2 fires in California, but not the one nearby. Looks like the sheriff isn't the only one "not on the job"!

Posted by: Marie Location: Florissant on Jun 28, 2008 at 08:35 AM
To "Sherriff": looks like YOU were sleeping in grade school, according to your grammar and spelling errors in your post. The real sheriff wouldn't have posted such snotty remarks about these people. They're just trying to get information about family and property.

Posted by: Cat Location: Florissant on Jun 28, 2008 at 08:20 AM
Where is the media coverage!!!! Anyone know a source for the latest news?

Posted by: bob Location: Guffey on Jun 27, 2008 at 11:43 PM
My only question is why did the Guffey fire department tell 4-Mile not to help with the fire on Tuesday when they were on the way there. As to Posted by: Sherriff Location: Cripple Creek how did you make Sheriff by posting a remark about the map and grade school. We are all very glad to get the help we are get and working together.

Posted by: Sherriff Location: Cripple Creek on Jun 27, 2008 at 09:12 PM
Firefighters are doinga great job guiding the fire around structures. Lots of smoke, flmes, and planes today! Perhaps some you people should learn how to read a map. Guess you were sleeping in grade school.

The latest estimate I have heard since they released the 30-50% contained estimate. They are now saying it is 10-15% contained. The fire I have heard started to the west(On Nash ranch) of the big hill on apache and burned to the south toward cherokee.

Thank you for interviewing our mother Connie. We called last night and she said, they were packing up. Then late last night, she called and said they had to leave. It was great seeing her on the news tonight. Glad she is doing well. Thank you for taking that time to show her. It meant a lot to us. Keep up the good work. You have always been the better coverage of all the news. Thank you.

You can find a map of the area on google earth. 38 44'09.64 N - 105 20'51.63 W will get you in the general area of the fire. I know this area well because my Parents live at the end of Cheyenne Road. Cherokee and Apache are the two most talked about roads right now so if you find them you can follow along. Sorry I couldn't just copy and paste instead of using latitude and longitude but google is pretty new to me. Hope this helps a little if you have loved ones in that area.

Posted by: Patti Location: Fremont County on Jun 27, 2008 at 03:31 PM
According to Denver Channel 7 the fire is 30 to 50 percent contained. Can anyone verify that?

Posted by: JTR Location: Divide on Jun 27, 2008 at 03:29 PM
Yes, thanks KKTV for keeping everyone as current on the news - KRDO has sucked at getting the news out first. A map would definitely be nice. Are the fire fighters out in CA going to be called back to CO - I think they need to be fighting OUR fires - not CA's fires.

Posted by: Lisa Location: Denver on Jun 27, 2008 at 03:19 PM
Thank you WingMan for the update, yours seems to be the only update we have received. You mentioned that the fire was next to the Ralston property, we are actually 2 house down from them on Cherokee. Was it burning along Cherokee Drive? Do you know if it had done any damage to the Sauers residence? Has anyone heard if there were any structures lost yet? Keep calling the Sheriff Dept but we keep getting the same answers...Call back, nothing has changed and to go to the meeting this evening at the 4 Mile Church @ 7pm. Thank you all for the updates. ANd yes we would all like to see some kind of map of where the fire has burned so far

Although the fire seemed to be out at 1:15 a.m. this morning (no red glow), it has now flared up again. Many trips being made by tanker planes, who are working very hard. Wind is coming from the North, so fire is spreading to south (away from my house at 4-Mile Ranch), now looks to be 10 mi away vs. about 5 mi. yesterday.

There will be a public briefing at the Four Mile Church 7pm tonight. 6/27/08

KKTV- Please keep us updated on wind direction. If it shifts many of us will need to go. I'm keeping neighbors updated through this site.

I fortunate enough to be taken to my home in Bear Trap last night by a Sheriffs officer helping me retrieve some medical equipment. At that time, about 12AM, the fire had not reached Cheyenne Road. It had jumped across Apache near Cherokee, it was all along the roadside near and behind the Meyer property stretching up Apache past Cherokee, near the Ralston property. I saw no burned structures, the Sheriff also said none had burned at that time, save one seasonal use trailer. It was dark and very smokey, so take it for what it's worth. My home is still standing today, I know this because I have remote access to one of my computers. I hope this helps assuage some of the fears some of you are having with the lack of info that is being reported. Good Luck & God Bless all affected and those working to bring this fire to a close.

Still haven't seen any sort of map showing actual location of fire on Bear Trap. Would be very useful and much appreciated. Our place is 1 mile E or Park County line and 7 miles N of Fremont County line.

Has anyone heard anything new? We have a cabin on Cherokee Road. All we hear is no structures have been burned and that was around 11:45 last night.

Posted by: Liz Location: Florissant on Jun 27, 2008 at 08:27 AM

How about a map or a recent update if homes have been destroyed and WHERE in Bear Trap Ranch!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Posted by: Carol Todd Location: 4-Mile Ranch on Jun 27, 2008 at 01:24 AM
My subdivision is adjacent (north) to Dave Nash's ranch. The fire is about 5 miles SE of my house (panoramic view from my deck) and burned all day - many trips by planes dropping slurry. After dark, very bright red, but now at 1:20 a.m., no sign of fire in the sky! I believe it has been put out - thank God! Very dry here, 48 degrees now.

Posted by: Ralph Location: Victor, CO on Jun 26, 2008 at 09:02 PM
From listening to my scanner fire command has ordered all of Bear Trap evacuated.

Posted by: Mary on Jun 26, 2008 at 09:01 PM
We were just in Navajo Mt. Mesa. It is about a mile from there but the fire is northwest of there moving southeast. At this point, it doesn't appear to be in danger as long as the winds stay blowing in the same direction.

Posted by: Mary Location: Florissant on Jun 26, 2008 at 08:28 PM
I just drove by the Franklin Nash Property, it doesn't seem to be affected. The fire is more northeast than that and seems to be headed southeast at this point. Hope this helps!

Well, you guys beat out KRDO! Nothing on their website about this. A friend lives near there, she was in the Springs, but is headed up to her house! Very scary! It's going to be another bad season, I'm afraid. Thank you for giving the most up to date news! appreciate it :)
