Fighting the Drought

The state's drought task force will meet Monday to try to develop a worst case scenario plan for combating the impact of the worst drought on record.

The subcommittee will try and decide how to help farmers, tourist operators, energy companies, water suppliers and firefighters if the state's mountains don't get enough snow this winter.

Much of the new plan is likely to be education. Weather forecasters say El Nino is expected to deliver enough precipitation to significantly improve water supplies.

Statewide, the snowpack is about 20% above last year. But, that is still roughly 75% of the 30-year average.
