Wildland Firefighter Jobs

Applicants for the firefighter positions must be at least 18-years-old, U.S. citizens and able to pass a physical conditioning test. There is no upper age limit.

Laurie Robison, fire prevention specialist with the San Juan Public Land Center says pay varies from $8.90 to $12.20 per hour.

With the continued drought and fire risk already increasing, the U.S. Forest Service and the Bureau of Indian Affairs are conducting job fairs to round up seasonal wildland firefighters.

The jobs typically last from May into September.
