Drug Charges Hindering Surgery

Mount San Rafael Hospital in Trinidad has temporarily suspended surgeries because the only nurse capable of administering anesthetic was arrested on felony drug related charges.

52 year old Davis Lee Gibson was charged this week with numerous drug counts in connection with the possession, sale and distribution of hundreds of codeine tablets, a prescription painkiller, and obtaining a controlled substance by deceit and fraud. He was arrested January 14th and posted a $25,000 bond.

Hospital officials say they've contracted with an anesthesia service company and surgery will start again Monday.

The 70 bed hospital has been sending surgery patients to Pueblo,
Colorado Springs and Denver hospitals since Thursday.
