Several bills in a package designed to slash 850 million dollars out of this year's state budget moved through House committees Wednesday on their relatively quick journey through the Legislature.
The bills, including some that reduce spending and others that change laws that require spending on various projects are designed to be approved quickly.
The later they are signed into law the less money they would save before June 30, which concludes the fiscal year.
Among the measures winning committee approval today was one to transfer about $203 million in various accounts to the General Fund.
The largest transfer would be $150 million from the Major Medical Insurance Fund.
In other action, the House Finance Committee approved a major part of Gov. Bill Owens' budget-cutting plan by delaying the final state payday of the year by one day into the next fiscal year, saving about 90 million dollars in this fiscal budget.
