Tavern owners are joining residents in a movement to repeal an
ordinance that bans smoking in public places, including bars and
restaurants. Organizers believe owners have the right to run
businesses without government interference.
Campaigns are afoot to repeal similar laws in Tempe, Arizona,
and Las Cruces, New Mexico.
Americans for Nonsmokers' Rights in Berkley California says more
than 1,500 cities have similar restrictions.
