A Colorado Springs woman convicted of child abuse in the death of her four-month-old step-grandson will get a new trial because the jury ignored a judge's order about researching the case. The Colorado Court of Appeals has thrown out Deborah Wadle's child abuse conviction because the jury gathered information about the anti-depressant Paxil. Wadle's lawyer says he believes the jury's decision to independently look into the anti-depressant resulted in the guilty verdict. Court documents show that a juror with some medical training told the others that Paxil is a strong drug prescribed for people who are anti-social and violent. Wadle was convicted after the child died in 1999. Her lawyer says the child had a pre-existing brain condition that caused his death.
